MEET TOVE CECILIE FASTING
Norwegian textile artist based in Spain since 2022, formerly living in Greece (1993 -2014) and Paris (1983-1984, and 1986).
Tove has strong roots in traditional Norwegian wool and textile crafts, where skills, techniques and knowledge are passed on from mother to daughter. She takes this a step further, from domestic and practical use, to the public sphere, but just like generations before her, she is using mainly scraps, recycled materials and whatever is available in her work.
Often the fabrics carry a story by themselves.
The textiles might be plant dyed, painted or discoloured, and are used in a combination with handstitching/embroidery.
Her style is influenced by folklore, naivistic and narrative art, while being inspired by folk tales, magic, religion, astrology and mythology.
Through her work, Tove aims to share the feeling that the world is a beautiful place, filled with magic.
